Which MacBook should you buy?
MacBook Neo: the entry MacBook
The MacBook Neo is a 13-inch laptop with Apple's A18 Pro chip and 8GB of memory, as listed by Pakistani retailers. It costs about half as much as a MacBook Air. It suits students and anyone who mainly browses, writes and uses office apps. With only 8GB, it is not the best for heavy video editing.
MacBook Air M5: the best for most people
Apple lists the MacBook Air with:
- the M5 chip with a 10-core CPU
- 16GB memory as standard, up to 32GB
- 512GB storage as standard
- a 13.6-inch or 15.3-inch display
- up to 18 hours of video streaming
It is light, and Apple's battery figures mean a full day of normal use for most people. It handles photo editing, light video work and programming comfortably. Choose 15-inch if you want a bigger screen and do not mind the extra weight and cost.
MacBook Pro: for heavy work
Apple's MacBook Pro comes as a 14-inch with M5, M5 Pro or M5 Max, and a 16-inch with M5 Pro or M5 Max. Pick a Pro if you:
- edit long videos or work in 3D
- need more ports than the Air offers (compare them on Apple's spec pages)
- run demanding work for hours at a time
For most students and office users, a MacBook Air is enough, and the money saved can go towards more memory or storage.
Where to buy a new MacBook in Pakistan
We found no Apple online store for Pakistan. Apple products are sold through authorised distributors and their partner shops:
- Mercantile describes itself as an Apple Authorised Distributor and Service Provider. In August 2026 it began offering a two-year warranty on MacBooks bought in its campaign: one year from Apple and one extra year from Mercantile.
- GNext, another authorised distributor, launched an Apple Flagship Store on DarazMall with Daraz in June 2026. Dawn reported one year of Apple warranty plus one year from GNext, and 0% instalment plans on eligible products.
Large electronics retailers also sell MacBooks. Ask whether the laptop comes with a local warranty, and from whom.
Student offers
In August 2026, Mercantile listed back-to-school prices: the MacBook Neo 256GB at Rs 229,999 (down from Rs 265,000), the Neo 512GB at Rs 269,999, the 13-inch MacBook Air 512GB at Rs 424,999 and 1TB at Rs 494,999, and the 15-inch Air 512GB at Rs 494,999 and 1TB at Rs 644,999. The report did not give an end date for these prices, so check if they still apply.
Buying a used MacBook
Used MacBooks are common, and they can be good value. One Lahore shop listed a 2017 MacBook Air 13-inch at about Rs 70,000 to Rs 94,500 and a 2017 MacBook Pro 13-inch at about Rs 134,500. These are asking prices, not sale prices.
Before you buy:
- Check the battery cycle count. Hold Option, click the Apple menu, open System Information, then Power. Apple's support page lists the maximum cycles for each model, and most recent MacBooks are rated for 1,000.
- Make sure the seller has signed out of their Apple Account and erased the Mac, so it is not locked to them.
- Check which macOS version it can run. Older Intel MacBooks, such as 2017 models, no longer get the newest macOS versions, which means some apps may stop working over time.
- Test the keyboard, screen, ports and speakers.
- Ask for a receipt with the serial number, and any warranty in writing.

MacBook or Windows laptop?
For the price of a MacBook Air, you can buy a well-equipped Windows laptop with a Core i7 or Core Ultra processor. A MacBook is the better choice if you want long battery life and an iPhone that works smoothly with your laptop. A Windows laptop is better if your course or job needs Windows-only software.
